The most beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast

The most beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast

I spent several weeks on the Amalfi Coast to take these photographs, which are from my two limited edition series prints of the area called Amalfi Forever and Amalfi Summer. I hopped from Sorrento to Praiano, Capri to Positano to shoot the coastline’s most incredible views. It’s pretty hard to take a bad picture of this part of Italy. Strada Statale Amalfitana (the road that winds down the coast) provides some great shots and angles, and I love to jump on a Vespa and go exploring, pulling over anywhere between Positano and Maiori, stopping wherever catches the eye.

Marina Piccola

If you visit just one spot with your camera, I recommend the pretty little bay of Marina Piccola on Capri, which blows me away from every angle, every time. In the sea, there are these faraglioni – coastal rocks that rise out of the inky water.

Praiano

Another favourite location for great shots is Praiano, where the view looking across to Positano follows the curves of the landscape – I go late in the day to get the best shot.

Il San Pietro di Positano

Il San Pietro di Positano, which has a view looking back towards Positano town, is hard to beat. Life is pretty good when you are at the hotel’s private beach club. One of my most popular prints, Sunkissed, was shot here.

Da Adolfo

For long lunches with some great shots, Da Adolfo in Positano and La Fontelina in Capri are two favourites. For me, their spaghetti vongole is the best.

La Scogliera Positano

I make sure I have a couple of cameras with me when shooting so I can catch any type of shot – I like the GFX 50R, a Fujifilm medium-format camera. For every location I do loads of research, but on the day you just never know what might happen. I don’t use tripods and none of my work is staged, so it can require some patience waiting for the right shot to present itself.

La Fontelina

Of all my prints, I have a couple of all-time favourite pictures. Departing Da Luigi was taken overlooking Da Luigi beach club under Il Faraglioni on Capri. And La Fontelina is a birds-eye view down to the storied beach club and restaurant of the same name, just next to it.
