Bay of Naples: Villa Castellammare
Some 45 minutes drive south of the gritty, sexy and darkly romantic city of Naples and outside the seaside town of Catellammare di Stabia, one can find this splendid villa, a dreamy, neoclassical estate, set in the hills at the entrance to the Sorrento peninsula. This magnificent home, sleeping up to 10, given its entirely unique position, offers guests sweeping panoramic views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. Just a few minutes from the town centre, this stunning property is agreeably secluded, thus attributing to the privacy in a most idyllic setting.
This enchanting and exclusive four floor villa is seemingly the fitting way to experience Naples, the danger and decadence as alluring and juxtaposing as the rugged cliffs meeting the cobalt blue waters. This property is an ideal refuge in which to gather family and friends throughout the year. The interiors are just as impressive as the grounds. On the ground floor an elegant entrance leads into a wonderful sitting room, whose precious marble floors, high ceilings, and myriad of antiques and paintings reflect the rich history of the region but also of the house itself. The stately yet inviting ambience is completed with a large marble fireplace and adjoining marble guest bathroom. There is also a wonderful light that spills in from the four French windows, giving the wooden floors and high ceilings a bright and spacious feel. The Living room is the perfect spot to unwind with many comfortable sofas, and a TV, for a cosy night in. And no Italian family home would quite be complete without a fully equipped modern mamma’s kitchen with large fridge/freezer, a small utility room, and a breakfast bar, at which guests can enjoy a convivial breakfast. Quite wonderfully groceries can be delivered directly to the villa, which is a true luxury given that the south of Italy has some of the freshest and most delicious produce in the country such a mozzarella!
A majestic spiral staircase and an internal lift grant access to the first floor where one can find the 5 elegant double bedrooms and four bathrooms, most with sea facing views. There is also basement floor with a second large living room comprising of a TV room and should you feel particularly motivated, a small gym.
Not to mention the piece de la resistance being the large, inviting, grey stone saltwater infinity pool (16 x 5 m) with sweeping panoramic views over the picture postcard scenery below.
The grounds of the estate are just as decorative as the interiors, home to a large heated swimming pool, and a scattering of sun beds and umbrellas amongst the lush Mediterranean back drop of lemon, olive and palm trees and fragrant flowers. On the other side of this beautifully kept garden, there is a barbecue, wood-fired pizza oven and a large, 12-seater dining table where guests can enjoy many colourful evenings overlooking Mount Vesuvius and maybe making last minute road trip plans to neighbouring Sorrento or boat trips to the nearby island of Capri.
One is so well looked after at Villa Castellammare, with a delicious freshly prepared breakfast, daily cleaning and in-house staff (7 hours a day) included - holidays spent here are memorable just as they are comfortable not to mention the only way to descend to the alluring, characteristically chaotic town of Naples and be back to the house for a fresh long lunch by the pool.
