The Allure of Argentario - Tuscany but not as you know her
It is so rare in Europe to arrive, after only a short flight, to a place of undisturbed wild beauty, such as Monte Argentario - the Maremma’s little piece of Capri, where one discovers the place that Italians choose to go on holiday - where turquoise waters are often steps from your front door. Arriving by car, only a 90 minute drive from Rome’s International Airport, one takes in the most stunning Tuscan scenery; from sweeping countryside and sleepy hilltop towns to winding roads and endless umbrella pines that lead you to the sea. This place is entirely unspoilt and endlessly enticing. Argentario was indeed under Spanish rule for two centuries, which affords the peninsula a laid back Andalucian charm, which can be felt in the vibrant town of Orbetello or the picturesque fortress harbour of Porto Ercole - a good deal less manicured than Portofino but just as pretty! There is a something for everyone here, undoubtedly why those in the know remain as faithful as the elegant gabbiani flocking to the rugged harbour of Porto Santo Stefano or the wild boar trundling through the abundant maquis and rosemary lined coastline. This is a place to discover and come back to and then fall in love all over again when you return.
Ranging from villas with pools, to dramatic retreats high on the Monte with panoramic views, to small cottages with private, direct access to the sea (as shown in the details of La Casetta above) the wide selection of properties available showcases just why Monte Argentario is top of that "must-have" list.
